4-way mix valves

I am trying to find engineering material, manufacturing literature, or general guidlines in the proper sizing of four way mix valves for hydronic heating. Any information other than using .5 - 1.0" pressure drop and total flow would be appreciated.

Not Critical
You're only using the valve to re-direct the flow, not throttle it. Doesn't matter what the Cv is.. In this case, bigger is better

4-way's
Carefull, when 4-way mixing valves are greatly oversized the actuator tends to "hunt" for the proper temperature constantly.
Most manufacturers provide good charts to help with sizing.

Correct!!
Oversizing a 4 way or 3 way has a very negative effect. I size for radiant load: 1/2" for up to 15K Btus, 3/4" from 15K-50K, 1" 50K-100K, using Viessmann valves. Sometimes, I'll use them for gravity conversions with cast iron rads, to prevent thermal shock. Sizing charts are available from the manufacturer.
