Does anyone have a suggestion on a GREAT commercial boiler book? I need one that can explain components and sequence of operation. The boiler that I will be working on was built in 1940 or so.
Thanks

frist, do you know the type of boiler? if it is in an older building some those boilers were built in place. Next, the type of control system detrems the book you woll need for your sequence of opperation is it a fireeye or honeywell flame safe guard? Is it a power burner or ribbon burner? Honeywell Flame safeguard controls a honeywell textbook maybe what you are looking for look on the honeywell website for the book.

No, I don't know yet what type they are. As far as built in place, I think you mean the building was built around the boiler? If so, yes. It does have a new fireeye control and they have dual-fuel power burners. Quite large.0 -
any chance?
Sound's similiar to an IC burner? If you can get a name and model I may be able to help.0 -
.
you might have a number of burners on it --some may be hard to find parts for ---the boiler and burners typically are seperate units --there were many options between then and now ------------if the burner is relatively new it might be a Powerflame,Webster,IC,Gordon Piatt,Ray--too many to list if you can get some more info before you go i can probably give you some hints and tricks - 70% of what i work on is boilers of that vintage with various burners on them --all fuels//as far as sequence of operation --either an aquastat on boiler (making domestic hw) then wired in parralell you will have a heat-timer or similar control (steam) or reset controller operating 3-way valve or aquastat maintaining 180 and a control for pumps w/danfoss valves at the radiators ///sequence of the individual control limits make--prepurge goes through running interlocks --then pilot then main fuel --this may seem vague but so is the question0 -
.
most of those boilers are brickset firebox Federals, pork chop Smiths, older watertubes etc...0 -
I agree with Larry 100% on that book! It was considered the "BIBLE" when I was servicing. I still keep it right here, by my desk! Yup,.....there will be a TON of info there for you. Happy Reading!!!!!0 -
I have some numbers that might help. It was built in 1948 by The Boiler Engineers & Supply Co. with a power flame burner M#C2-G0-20. It uses a Fireye flame monitor for controls. Is there a general book out there on components and operation?0
