OS&Y Valve

Member Posts: 2
I have a 10" OSY valve installed one lughole below horizontal on a steam line. Will that cause the valve to fail prematurely or will it last its normal life? There is 15 lbs steam in the lines and the valve is about 25 feet from the boiler.

Valve
Which valve are you using? How is it rated?0 -
I doubt
it will compromise anything. Probably only last 40 years instead of 50.

OS&Y valve
While not recommended by any manufacturer, I have seen them installed in every imaginable position, including stem down!!! As with anything, good maintenance will prevent poor performance by the valve when called upon. Keep the stem greased with a little never-seize and check the packings regularly and it should be fine.
