Is this true?

I was told by a guy at a supply house that if I replaced my steam boiler I need to use the water line on the old boiler, not the new one. Is this true?

You need to do a bit of enginering to make sure condensate will return properly, i'm pretty sure this is what he is refering to. You need to understand what is required for the condensate to be able to return to the boiler, which i don't know well enough to tell you how to do it. Teh weight of the water needs to be great enough to push agians the steam generated in the boiler so the steam goes out to the system instead of backing out pushing the water out of the bottom of the boiler. If you are thinking of repalcing I would highly recommend you get and read some of Dan's books or at very least read some of the other seactions of this site.

Scott,
If memory serves me,the installation manual for almost all Peerless boilers had a very nice description of a /the "false water line" and some decent piping diagrams. Chris0 -

I can HIGHLY vouch for many of Dans books, esp. THE LOST ART OF STEAM HEATING. Well worth the money. JMO.0
