I have a small home that I just bought this summer, I turned on the boiler tonight and as it started heating. I thought, I hope there is enough water in there; I turned the bell/cosset water press. Regulator handle up straight and I heard water entering. After about 5 minutes I heard a bang upstairs and on the side of the radiator there was a small crack. This is a 2 pipe system the radiators are about 16 inches high and about 5 ft. long there are valves s at the top to bleed air. Did I cause this to happen? Is there a way to fix a small crack? Thanks for any help

Thermal Shock
Did you do this when the system was hot? If so it sounds like you thermaly shocked the radiator and this caused it to crack, it is never a good idea to introduce cold water into a hot system it can cause a lot of problems, I would be wondering about the boiler as well, the only way I know of to fix it is to replace it.
