    expasion tank

My boss and I just installed a radient system in a small outbuilding used for a home office. After much discusion we installed the expasion tank AFTER the mixing valve but before the manifold. I thought that the tank and vent combo should go on the hot supply nearest the boiler. he said " look kid I have more years in this trade than you have hot meals and what I say goes" Should I look for a new employer?...who is right....and does it matter?

    where to put it?

Randy, what's more important is where did you put the air elimination device. An expansion tank can basically be put anywhere in the system and will still work, but the air elimination device should always be on the suction or low pressure side of the circulator. There is a lot of debate about where stuff should get put and this answer will likely spawn some more, but you should always be concerned about doing it right. Continue to question, it's the only way to get answers. Can't really say who is right in this situation without seeing it, and I've seem some pretty crazy installs over the years that still work in spite of the "less than normal" methods of installation.
Strive to learn all you can and keep asking those questions.
PS: It matters when he's the boss.

I would rather see the expansion tank closer to the boiler but I must admit I have seen them on the return side also.
