Oil Gurus - Please Help

We install 6-10 Buderus Direct Vent Oil Boilers per year. I have had tremendous success with them up till the last 4. The problem has been on initial fire-up, well, they don't fire up very well. We have used both Carlin and Riello with the same results. The problem seems to be too much back pressure in the combustion chamber. We change the air settings trying to get it to just light. it lights, but does not stay lit. dozens of nozzles and hours later, we still are having problems. I don't feel it is a burner problem, because the last time it happened, we replaced the Carlin burner with a Riello and got the exact same results. The only thing my tech and I can come up with is the concentric vent. We noticed that about a year ago, the concentric vent (FT4) design had changed and the actual exhaust port is quite a bit smaller than before. Like I said, we have installed many of these with no problems, but now we are getting consistant problems. Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with these. Anyone from Buderus out there? Stumped in Seattle

Oil burner settings
Make sure you are using the latest revision in oil burner setup specs. If you have persistant problems please call us at 1-800-Buderus.
thanks0 -
Be aware that the
specs must be 'just right' on the G-215. I talk with people who have used every burner out there and all of them have had some problems.
Talk to Buderus, this is NOT a burner problem.
Draft conditions are THE most critical, but that figures since with all fuel burning '90-95% of all flame and combustion related problems are directly contributable to draft' as I say in my book Combustion & Oil Burning Equipment.
I wish you much success and don't give up on those burners or anyone else's.0 -
Agreed
Draft and combustion air are always the biggest culprits. Right behind that is issues with oil lines.0 -
I like to think that
draft and air are the same things.
Inlet draft is combustion air.
Combustion air is combustion draft.
Venting air is outlet draft.
If you think of draft only existing outside the structure and your job is to bring it in, use it, and put it back to where you found it, it's amazing how easy this complex science becomes. Don't forget 'fat boy' though, the fuel.
You're right Dave, the whole picture.0 -
thanks guys
