If a hot water heater have been off for 2 days and the ambiant temp around it is approx. 60 deg. how long will it take for the tank of water to get up to temp(40 gal superstor). It seems that i turn on the hot water and its hot but then it turns to luke warm. this was right after i repaired the promblem(zone valve motor defective).Learning on the job -baptism by fire.

Your question of recovery needs math applied for an honest answer. Are you piped 1" and pumping volumes of high temperature boiler water through the tank coil? Is this domestic priority with good boiler btus available? The symptoms you describe - hot going to luke warm quickly sounds as if you may have a bypassing flow issue where you can be storing full temperature water but supplying tempered water to fixtures. Check for a tempering valve or crossover piping problem after you confirm the basics. Enjoy......Dan

the short
answer is when the boiler comes up to temperture the storage tank should come up with it. If not as Dan said start troubleshooting. J.Lockard0 -
