use Munchkin with any 10K thermistor (outdoor T sensor)?

We have a Munchkin. I'd been suspecting for a while that it isn't reading the right temperature. Today I put two other thermometers next to the sensor and these two were within 1F of each other, but the Munchkin reading is 6F higher.

During this process I also noticed that the sensor box didn't say Munchkin, it said Tekmar.

I know both use 10K thermistors, but are all 10K thermistors equal? Do I have the right to demand that I get an original Munchkin sensor? (My contract didn't literally say Munchkin sensor, it said outdoor sensor.) Can I turn a dial or something on the 925 board to recalibrate the outdoor reading?
