Low hot water pressure at all faucets

Hot water heated from oil fired boiler, low pressure at all hot faucets. Cold water pressure is fine. Has any one ran into this before. Any quick fixes?

Check for clogged airators at the fixtures. If the hot water tank was replaced recently, debris can clog.

But Ted,
the cold water is fine, cant be the airators, is the water from a tankless coil, a "boost" tank or an indirect? Is it a new system, or an older one?

Limed tankless coil ?
you might have to flush out the coil with acid if your water running though it has a lot of minerials in it.
If that doesn't work check your flow resrictor and mixing valve.0 -
Hi Chuck, The system is going on its third winter. It is a tankless coil.
Thanks Ernie0 -
Hi A.J. I know we have a lot of minerials in our water. What kind of acid should I use to flush it out?
Thanks Ernie0 -
coil
Sulfuric acid, But this is a job for a pro, you need resperators , mask , gloves, it can be a dagerous , volitile situation.0 -
check
your mixing valve. I would get a pro to open the mixing valve up before you try deliming your coil. Frequently this is the problem.0 -
Keep in mind that you have a 50% chance of an acid bath cleaning the coil. You also have a 50% chance that it will cause the coil to leak (pinhole, high boiler pressure) which will then have to be relaced. Go with the pro and save yourself a lot of possible problems.

replace tankless with indirect water heater
Save yourself a lot of work and heartache and bite the bullet by replacing that tankless coil with an indirect water heater. You will have as much hot water as needed and your scaleing problems will be solved long term. Another benefit of indirect water heaters is that they are less costly to run than a tankless coil. Having been in the Oil business for over 25 years gives me plenty of experience with this problem. The solution with your best interests in mind is an indirect water heater. We have been using the Buderus S-120 with thermoglaze lineing to prevent future lime and scaleing build up.But before you do anything serious make sure the mixing valve is not the culprit. I wish you luck.We stopped acid cleaning coils 15 years ago for safety reasons. At best it is a band aid approach to solve your problem.0 -
NOT sulfuric
but Hydrochloric (muriatic) is what you want. You will get quite a violent reaction when sulfuric hits water !0 -
Ernie use muriatic acid
like somebody on the wall has already mentioned, but this stuff is not something you want to learn the hard way with .Think it is time to call a pro either for a coil cleaning or a price on an indirect,(it would be less likely to lime up),or water softener.Let me know how you make out.
