Noisy G-115

I have a G-115, (in a church of all places) that produces an unusually loud chimney roar. Riello's, which this boiler has, are often a little noisier than other brands but this one is exceptionally so. Does anyone know if there is a flue "muffler" available from Buderus, or somewhere else, for these situations?

Wow, I had always heard that the riello was the quietest.
If you add fresh air intake, it may quiet it down.

It is an option to get the muffler. Talk to you're installer.0 -

None other than myself. Just trying to save some time for Monday waiting for the distributor to find out the answer to this question. I'm positive they wouldn't have a clue. They don't know much, just shuffle inventory.0 -
Steve,
I have heard that Buderus does offer a "muffler" for the combination you describe.
Personally, I've always loved Riello burners, but find them a bit noisy in the chimney too. I put one in my parents home, and if I'm in the basement, I can barely hear it. If I'm sitting in the living room, where the fireplace is, I can definately hear it.One flue over. On a side note, my godfather is the fuel oil supplier to my parents, and after the boiler rplacement he asked what I did to the system. Seems that he used to deliver 3 times per year,(twin 275 tanks). The fuel has only been coming 2 times per year since the new boiler/burner combination was installed. After seeing the bills and a bit of calculating, sizing the boiler properly and adding hot water to their system made quite a difference. They have gone from 1200 gallons per year to around 900 GP/Y. Not bad for a guy who took the time to measure all the radiation and give them what they needed, not just sized the new unit to the old one eh? Chris0 -

Is the muffler a Buderus part? I don't see it listed on the price list anywhere.
Don't you wonder how much our national energy consumption would decrease if every house was sized and set up properly? It's the same with scorched air. I have to say probably 80% of the houses I get into are oversized, a lot of them by double at least. (Unless the house actually needs 70 btu/sq ft.) This is true even in new construction. A great majority of the installers just stick in a 100,000 btu furnace because that's what they always did.
Sad, but true!0 -
without a ....
doubt the ez1 is the quietest in a 115...I have had both in mine...they both work fine I have been using the Carlins in all my oil installs as of late....the bf series would be a bit quieter but that makes the set up a bit more tricky...kpc

Thanks
The latest catalog I have is 2002, the gray one. This should be a hint to someone at Buderus.0 -

I was on a Job with the Viessman rep a few weeks ago. He suggested that a 5' straight pipe at the back of any rear flue boiler, before any elbows will quiet the roar.
If you install the muffler Let us know how it works,
Regards
Robert

Sure
I'm going to price it out Monday, now that I have a part #. This install was tight, no way to get 5" let alone 5'of straight pipe behind it. Stairway 8" to the right, a wall 8" to the left and the chimney is about a foot behind the boiler. The flue goes right into an ell, about 2' vertical then another ell into the chimney. Would have made one of the LevittMasters proud!!
If I put it on I'll be sure to post the results.0 -
Will be real interested in seeing what this muffler is.
Could you post a picture of it?
Also wondering what size the old stack this is piped into is? Most of our new installs are 5" Excell, and I believe the bigger 7-8" stacks cause the rumble. Is it possible to install a 5" ss liner?

muffler
Have sold a few of the mufflers in the past year, by all
counts they do work very well. Buderus can fax you a cut sheet on it, it is a big beefy part, about two feet long, if I rember correctly.0 -
Muffler?

Might that be one on the right of this picture?

I thought that the picture I took might be the muffler.
