repace section of steam system

I want to replace a 2 foot section of 2 1/2" steel piping on my steam boilier system. The question I have is if I take the piece off (it sits at ground level - below the height of the boiler) will water run out of the system? Will I need to do anything special or just simply remove the pipe and repace with a new one. I have an automatic water feed on the system along with a low water cut off. It is my understanding that as long as the system is not running then there should not be any pressure nor water in the pipe - is this correct?

Look
at the water level in the gauge glass and imagine that level across the entire piping system. It's completely filed with water below that level. Yes, you'll need to drain the system. However, if you cut the pipe, that process becomes automatic. ;-)Retired and loving it.0
