Radiant setup

Radiant floor heating: 3 zones, all to run at 101 degree F, total flow 6.1 gpm /7.4 head. I am using an electric boiler as my heat source.
My questions:Am I better to control with 1 circulator and 3 zone valves or each zone have its own circulator.
I am also looking at boilers Slant/Fin Monitron & Weil McLain P-ER. All opions greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • well if ....

it was my job I would use circulators...Grundfos 15-58...has 3 spd. control built in so you can customize ....kpc

    Valves

I would recommend valves as splitting 6.1 gpm three ways with pumps is not a cost effective solution. It requires more controls and consumes more electricity over the long run not to mention that almost anybodies small wet rotor circ can handle 6 gpm at 7 or 8 ft.

I would most likely use 1 pump and zone at the radiant manifold with loop valve actuators.

I agree with chris though with a system this small do you need 3 zones are they heating different areas if they all require the same temp try useing balancing valves to even out your system .

I;m only a HO but those numbers you cited seem awfully low compared to the data you just supplied above.....
