Hot Water System Converted to Steam

I had an inspector look at a house I might purchase today. He said that the heating system in the house used to be hot water but that the new boiler was steam. However, there are no vents in the radiators to let steam off (although there are two near the boiler). Am I asking for problems, or is this not going to be a problem.

Thanks

Me thinks your \"inspector\" needs ...............................

to hit the books......Most Home inspectors (Arlene exempted) don't know squat about the mechanical systems of the home, but love to wax endlessly about location of circulators and psi of steam systems. Hire a pro to checkj it out. Mad Dog

    But then again

I've worked on a system that was originally gravity hot-water, but was converted to Vapor. The owner had the original plans showing the system as hot-water. From your description it sounds like this is also a Vapor system.

If you're in the New York area and want a second opinion, try Arlene Puentes at October Home Inspection www.octoberhome.com . Those of us who know her think she's the best.

At least the house doesn't have scorched-air. This being the case I wouldn't let the confusion about the system stand in your way. If you buy the house, look at the Find a Professional page of this site for someone who can get that system running as it should.
