hi i was wondering can you put a leather sofa in front of a hotwater baseboard heater or a bed? like 8" in front of them?
also what is a good baseboard to buy?
i am thinking of installing baseboard heat on my new side of the house. i will have a buderus G115 installed in 3 more weeks.
thanks

Sure
as long as there is air flow space below the couch. The baseboard needs to have the cool air from the floor pulled into the bottom of the element to convect properly.
I've always liked Slant Fin baseboard. I'd go with the #30 series or better.
Installation is critical, as you know, with baseboard. Make sure the piping is insulated and allowed to move, without rubbing, as it expands. Same with any holes through joists or the floor.
Any length over 8 feet I use the expansion coupling. Hard to allow enough movement in just the holes on long lengths.

thanks hotrod and if I paint the baseboard that should not hurt the Efficiency of the baseboard right?0 -
Paint the enclosure
clean them real well first! Don't know that I would paint the fins unless it's a thin spray coat. Certainly not gobs of a thick latex!
Not sure paint would stick anyhow. They (fins and copper tube) seem to be kind of oily from the manufacturing process. Probably explains why they smell when first fired.

Painting
If you're talking about painting the metal enclosure (casing for the fins), no problem at all. It comes factory painted with a neutral-colored primer. Latex would do just fine.0 -
no id never paint the inside fins :-)i would just like to paint the outside that everyone can see
not the inside.

Paint enclosures
I have painted SlantFin enclosures with Rustoleum "Epoxy Finish" spray paint. It worked well for me especially in a bathroom. The can says it makes a scuff resistant surface and prevents rust. In a different bathroom where I did not paint the enclosure, it rusted in spots (areas not even near the toilet).
