Am I the only one who run's into the guages on the Weil Mclain leaking? Every Weil Mclain I put in leak's here. One turn with a wrench generally stops it but I had one strip out on me...Just curious..:)

You aint the only one
Just about every preinstalled gage leaks on us too . We always pull the gage out of the special bushing and Teflon it before the fillup . It looks like they put no thread sealant on there at all , don't it ?
Another critique about te Weil is the boiler drain - why do they install a short one that's a pain in the **** to get a hose on ? We pull them out and extend it for easier access .0 -
Ditto on that
We do the same but then again the supervisor likes the feed put in through the boiler drain. Yes I know, not the best area but I do what the boss want's..:) I'll have to start pulling the guage on every install. Wonder if any rep's from WM come here...;)0 -
Its too bad but
Every one leaks. I just pull them and dope 'em up right away. Pull the factory installed valve and put in a 3/4" ball valve and hose adapter. I guess we're all in the same boat.0 -
yup
everyone with the new style gauge leaks,no dope on the threads, just one more thing to remember, DUHOO!0 -
all manufactures have this problem...
they are either chiken to wrench it down and/or too cheap to use a libral amount of teflon tape/paste
so the first thing i do with a boiler is redo the gauge - i wish they were all tapped for 1/2 inch and adapted, so i could put in the watts temp/pres gauge with the adapter that closes if you unscrew the gauge so that you dont have to drain to take out the gauge to clean out scale caught in the pressure sense hole - i end up just putting in my own on the boiler loop - also the watts one has an o-ring - so just finger tight is fine0 -
Weil boiler drains
the drain is perfectly OK if you put the boiler up on blocks!!!

That's only if
you set the block back far enough so the drain overhangs it . The boiler leg gets too close to the edge for my tastes . Still , it's very close to the jacket and points down almost too much to get a hose on it . Ever try to pull the drain out on a new Weil ? I almost always crush the hose end of the valve doing it . Got a bin of unusable drains and I don't have the heart to mungo them .
