Copper header

Take a look at my latest home improvement "to do". I do not see any leaks in the fittings ...yet. Should I just insulate the pipes or does it make more "cents" to replace the copper first?

Thanks

    Replace it all

and pipe it in the proper configuration. You'll save a bunch of money on fuel. Just ask Alex Marx.

    a few cents

can be made when you rip out the copper and sell it at the scrapyard!..:) Do it while it's warm, you'll thank yourself later...

Jim, I'm not sure what make that boiler is

but you need to repipe that thing NOW.

First thing to do is read Dan's book "The Lost Art of Steam Heating" if you haven't already. It explains how headers on steam boilers work. Then get the piping diagram from your boiler's manufacturer. This will tell you what size the header pipes need to be.

To see what some really nice headers look like, go here:

You need the free Acrobat Reader to view this page.

Replacing that header is going to be a lot of work, but well worth it. You might want to check out the Find a Professional page of this site to locate someone who can handle the work if you don't think you're up to it.

    Hey Thad!

I have been looking into a sand blaster for you still but with no avail. The guy I had told you about is no longer in business.

I would also like to thank you for the props. a couple of weeks back.

    Jamie
