oil tanks

Does Anyone know the name of the company that has a tool that you can check the bottom of inside oil tanks for thickness and possible leaking?

By carefully arranging a simple
tape measure and a level - the thickness could be "measured to within a 32nd I suppose, but to what end?
The tank has so many of square inches along the lower half and base that you'd have to measure thousands of "points" along the more vulnerable portions to render any information gleaned as suspect.
A visual might be better since most oil tanks have pitting marks. The pitting can be seen by various "creative" processes like a flashlight dangled on a string, making a plastic two-mirror "periscope," and a decent camera with telephoto and flash setup. Of course the tank must be empty for that sort of test but the best way may be to have a professional tank testing service check it out?
I think they get 2, maybe 3 hundred?
