If a domestic hot water coil is no longer being used should the coil be left open ?
Thanks.
Thanks.

coil?
Yes...Robert O'Connor/NJ0 -
Makes little difference
I would however plug it.
The reason? If it ever develops a pinhole - you'll empty the boiler water all over the floor and possibly dry-fire the boiler.
Makes no difference whther water or steam. I would cap/plug it anyhow.

coil -plugging
if the coil has some resiual water in it and it is plugged. What will happen when the temperature in the coil is above 212 degrees? Steam can form inside the coil, without a pressure relief valve the coil could potetially explode. I was taught to puncture the coil from the inlet and outlet tappings before plugging it, or better yet, leave 2 open ends so that pressure can not build up.0
