Oil tank openings

I have a, what I would imagine to be, a very old oil tank. It has three openings on top: (2) 2inch and (1) 1 inch. I want to get a guage for this tank but it would have to go in the 1 inch opening and I haven't been able to find a gauge for any tank depth that fits a 1 inch opening. Has anyone ever seen a 1 in opening in a tank or is it possible to get a gauge that fits it?

Why ?
Does it have to be in the 1" opening ? If your vent is in a 2" you could get an alarm/gauge which would vent and be 2".0 -
Check with,
Sid Harvey. I seem to remember a "string gauge" with a 1" bushing on it. Of course, it was quite a while ago and some of the older tanks also had 3/4 vent tappings.O.K. , stop laughing....It was a long time ago!
The combo gauge/alarm is available from Scully in 1-1/4 to 2", but I like to keep things seperate. I guess that's why all the new tanks have 4- 2" holes by law.For some strange and unexplainable reason, a seperate "swing gauge" installed to replace the combo ventalarm/gauge unit, always seems to get hung up on the downed/saturated combo arm. That's why I'd prefer the string gauge.Gravity works. Chris0 -
Can't use the two inch openings. One of them is for the fill and the other has the oil lines running to the pump. The 1inch is the current vent, which if I'm not mistaken a vent alarm or vent alarm/gauge combo would go.
Who is Sid Harvey?0 -
hey
Replace the tank. Replace the tank. The third choise is replace the tank.0 -
I don't want a guage that bad. Besides, I think the house was built around it. No way to get it out without cutting it up and no way to get a new one in.0 -
Oil tank
There's always a way. What you have to do is figure out how they got the tank in there and then just do it all in reverse order.0 -
could alway's
Go with two 125 gallon tank's...Cut your tank in half, remove it and two smaller tank's in it's place...over and done with!!0 -
Like Miss Emily Lutella used to say....
Nevermind.
If anyone out there gets this, your dating yourself!
I think it's time for a new tank also.
Sid Harvey is a supply company that seems to have all the stuff you think you'll never be able to find. Chris0 -
Your vent needs to be equal to or larger than the fill.0 -
I'd have to check the dimmensions on the 125 gal tanks vs my narrow stairway. Still can't inagine it would fit. This basement used to have a bulkhead opening on the side of the house before some previous owner desided to extend the house in that direction and remove it. Now in my basement there is a wide staircase that goes up to...the bottom of my first floor shower stall. At least if that shower drain springs a leak it will be a very easy fix.0
