Gastite fittings

Has anyone had experience with Gastite fittings failing from overtightening? The threaded barrel of the fitting is cracking from someone tightening the split ferule too tight. I have taken over the HVAC maintenance in a building and found several fittings like this from the original installation.

Wow
I have installed quite a few Gastite fittings of all sizes and never had one strip. They turn down fairly easy as the compression of the stainless corrugation is made and then come to a definite "stop". At this point it does not require a lot of force to snug it down.
I was a little leary the first time I used it, (Plumbers will always try something "new", as long as their Fathers and Grandfathers tried it first) But it is a great product when used correctly.
Possible defect?

I had a couple of 1/2 inch fittings get stripped out. But nothing form the 3/4 or 1" ones.
They don't requrie superhuman strength or cheater bars on the end of your 4' wrench to tighten properly...:)0
