    it's a brand

Dunkirk isn't a boiler, it's a brand. They make a range of boilers. Possibly you are getting the el cheapo model, not much changed since 1950; Dunkirk makes those too.

Lose the plumber if he's not a hydronics professional; do some reading on your own. The el cheapo model is not usually the most cost-effective purchase.

Trying to make plumbers your freind RPG?

He is right though, dont think that just because your guy is a plumber, that he knows about hydronic heating. Ask for referances and ask for pictures of his work. Read a book like "Pump it away", its a short read and you may learn more than an installer.(not dissing plumbers here)

On the topic, dont just think an HVAC guy knows hydronic either.

Search for the hydronics pro.....Check the Find a Professional link to your left.

    How can you guys

automatically asume that since the guy is a plumber that he knows nothing about boilers. I did not read anything in the post that suggested otherwise. There are many pros on this site that are master plumbers AND hydronic specialists, I being one of them. Some of you guys here really need to think before you speak. This is stuff I expect to see over at the well known HVAC site, but not here.

Sorry Dan, but things like this really hit a bad nerve with me.

    To answer your question

Dunkirk is a decent boiler for the price. I am more partial to Weil McClain, although we are thinking of changing that. The key is to have it sized and installed properly. Don't assume that the old boiler is sized right either. Just be sure that you feel comfortable with the company that you choose.

    The Quantum 90 series

is a great condensing gas boiler. The oil fired units are jsut your basic cast iron pin boilers. Some have complained they're more of a problem to clean.

    Dunkirk

Dunkirk is decent boiler. They make boilers for others such as Carrier, Sears, etc. If I'm not mistaken, Dunkirk also makes Utica or vice-versa. Utica is a very good boiler.
