Doing without
A friend of mine has a sister-in-law that lives on one of the inland waterways in West Palm Beach. She's been without electricity since the storm hit there last week. They've been told not to flush their toliets since water pumping facilities are not working properly. She was able to buy a couple of bags of ice on Saturday and was thrilled to death.
Evidently, the hurricane insurance is based on the value of the property. Her deductible is $37,000.00.

That would include me
Robert.
I live 30m from the Gulf coast, north-east of Cameron, Louisiana, where "Audrey" hit in 1957. 571 people died/drowned when the storm surge came over 25m inland.
We caught the western edge of a hurricane 2 yrs ago, in Lake charles. I was in a solid concrete home then, but it stil shook the heck out of it. Now I live in the country, and the guy I rent from, told me yesterday that he has no insurance at all on this house. A fine time to tell me, eh!
The house needs some repairs (roof), maybe this will prompt him :O)
Ivan is wobbling a bit, so nobody can predict where he will go. I just pray that it leaves the folks in New Orleans alone, they are below sea level.
Lot's of praying going on, me included.
