Do you have any opinions about the Weil-Mclain brand vs Genesis (GSA) boilers? Which is better, more dependable and reliable? What is your experience? Any preference or recommendation?
Also, I have a typical Colonial 3 BR in south Bergen County, NJ. Do I need a 125K or 150K btu?
Thanks for any response.

Heatloss must be done
I cant compare both boilers since I havent installed the Genesis.
But I can say that you must have a heatloss done for your home. If you can get more than one done, to compare, that would be great. BTW, Its also important that anyone doing the loss must know all of the insulation R values. If you know whats in the walls and ceilings, that helpful.
On a side note. I've been to peoples homes and I may be the 3rd, 4th or 8th contractor there, and I'm told that "no one else has measured the house". So be careful and find a contractor that capable and willing to do the heatloss. Rules of thumb and looking at what is existing is not the best way or in your best interest.0 -

Sorry for not responding.
However, I can't seem to get the answers to my questions.
I am very appreciative for the people who take time to write, but sometime the answers are more confusing than helpful.
But I will try to be more responsive. Thank you.

OK MIKEY...
Lets start again. Did any of the contractors that gave you prices measure the radiators with a ruler? Your other post is also below entitled "Which Boiler" which has a few responses..........your turn<<<<<o>>>>>>Robert O'Connor/NJ0 -
I had 4 contractors came over. My wife mentioned that 2 went to all the rooms and presumably measured or estimated the radiators. I am not sure if they used a ruler or not.
My question though has to do with the brand name.
Based on my online research, the Weil Mclains seems to be the more popular brand. One of the contractor, however, mentioned the Genesis brand. So I am wondering which is the better brand.
Also, of the 4 contractors, 2 recommended 125K btu, 1 recommended 150K btu and 1 recommended 200K btu. I am surprised at the difference in their recommendations.

Which contractors went room to room? Were they the ones that came back with the same size? Did they specify copper or black iron pipe? Are they securing permits and can they prove they have insurance? I like the Weil-McLain EG, but I'm sure that if you checked out the others, they too will provide heat as well. If money is all that is of issue, why not get the best of both worlds and try Williamson/Thermoflo, It's a Weil-Mclain with a different wrapper on it and about $150 cheaper..Robert O'Connor/NJ0 -
Mikey.
Check out your previous post "Which boiler" below. The respondents asked questions that really made sense. If your gonna make an informed decision you gotta consider those...Robert O'Connor/NJ0 -
Weil-McLain EG boiler
We are a Weil-McLain wholesaler and sell a lot of EG's. Properly installed, they rarely have problems. Most of the time it is more important to choose a contractor that knows boilers than the particular brand of boiler you buy. I have never seen a Genesis and to my knowledge they are not sold in my market. As no one posting here has apparantly had any experience with the Genesis, I would tend to stay away from them.
As for sizing: Check out Weil-McLain's website www.weil-mclain.com. You should be able to download a copy of their radiation reference tables. Steam boilers are sized based on installed radiation. Also if you are in-between sizes, I always go with the larger size on steam. This has to do with being able to produce enough steam to fill all of the radiators. Undersized boilers on steam will not heat. Good luck. Hope this helps.0
