Tankless coil bolts

In all the years that I did service, I don't believe I EVER said, after a coil bolt snapped off,"Boy, am I glad this bolt is STAINLESS!!!

What do you guys wish to see on a coil, when you can SEE that the bolt is going to snap?

Stainless? Brass? Regular steel?

Studs or bolts?

If studs, stainless, brass, or steel?

Nuts? same choices...

Myself, (someone has to go first) I like nice drillable soft steel studs with brass nuts on them.

Since a coil gasket shrinks, and needs to be checked for tightness EVERY year, I like a nut on the dry outside of the coil to take up the slack with. I like a stud that I can grind flat when it snaps off, center punch it, and drill it out without having some exotic metal reject the drill bit into the boiler iron.

What do YOU prefer?

    bolts

When this comes up on the call board, the only thing I want is..... someone else to take the call! :)

Seriously, since I have been into three of these already this season, I really would love to see them be soft brass, soooo much easier to drill out when necessary.

    .

all the manufacturers should put stainless bolts w/anti-sieze on the coil plates, with a torque rating -- and the mechanics should have a good torque wrench when servicing // stop using red rubber or rainbow packing--i have done many coils --i only lost 1 boiler usually the bolts break drill them out and either heli-coil them (for the occoasion oops) or use correct bolts --stainless of course ---i did a coil on an older steel boiler --unfortunetly the boiler plate was too rotted --it was cheaper to replace the boiler than have the R stamp welder fix it

    A Flange

A flange so when you have to drill you can go straight through. On of the best things about some of the steel boilers is the flange that uses bolts and nuts.
