airlines question

Going to visit a friend in Florida (west coast)in a week and want to bring down a digital thermostat with me in my carry on bag. Will that be a problem for sercuity? thanks Dave

  • Just a thermostat? Not a digital thermometer with long, pointy metal probe I hope? Can't imagine a problem. I brought back some heavy brass hardware in carry-on (international with domestic connection) with no problem besides learning to carry it in my hands through security, let them see, then place in the bag. Three times they tore apart the bag--I guess on x-ray that the cremone bolt handles looked like some sort of weapon.

I have maybe a better idea-

Priority Mail. The $3.10 you spend will be easier than taking off your boots and bending over for a TSA rubber glove exam.

Thermostats have no terrorist value. When al Qaeda tried to use them in Afganistan, the temperatures soared to the 110's in the shade so they abandoned that program. :^)>

    Florida

You may get put to more work than just that thermostat. Poor Florida is getting beaten up pretty bad.

I recently came back from doing some training in Utah, and I was very concerned about travelling with a combustion analyzer. Not an issue at all. It got second looks, but no red flags.

    would be leary

I would be a little nervous of taking anything in that manner. I would want to bet with everything going on in the world they may tear your bag apart to see what it is. A friend had a small digital walkman in his bag and was stopped for "spot checks" on 5 different occassions and he works for the airline's!!!

I'm gonna agree with Brad on this one.

Why not just ship it? It will help you move through security a WHOLE lot faster, and keep the people behind you from hurling insults. (unfourtunately, it may beat you home, so make sure someone is there to accept the package for you!) JMHO. Chris
