Peerless boilers

I have two GM-05 units about to be installed into my home. They each have an Input MBH 228. They are to be set up to run as independent, but if necessary they will both run together. I have about a 45 high interior chimney that currently has no liner. The chimney is original to the home (1915) and has been exhausting oil heat. What size (diameter) liner do I need for adequate venting? Also, should the circulating pumps be on the supply side or the return side of the boiler. Im told it will work either way, but is one preferred over the other?

Chimney size
8" if using a smooth B vent liner ........9" if you use a corrugated model..
It's best to place the circulators just after the expansion tank and air scoop. Removes air best by systems self . Check pumping away...Both would heat but this ways better.....0 -
By the way......
.......450K is alot of btu's unless your heating the outdoor tennis court or live in a very old uninsulated mansion,I would have a heat loss calulation taken to size a boiler. Be suprised how much less you need.....0 -
I agree, Ed
I've heated 10,000 sq ft marginally insulated brick buildingswith only one of those sized boilers.
Heat load calc are a must for properly designed hot water heat... and not just multipling the square footage by some number pulled out of a hat.
My own 2800 sq ft 1906 two story frame with 700 sq ft of windows that has a load of 50,000 btu/hr. It is well insulated and wheather stripped. The as built load was closer to 120,000.
The poorly insulated 4500 sq ft homes with 10 to 12 foot ceilings I've done new boilers for typical only need 2 140,000 btu/hr input boilers that are stage fired.
