the boiler for purpose of cleaning the returns. (Lost art mentions this)will I damage the pressuretrol?

Nah...

but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to pull it and clean it out after you've cleaned up the system. In fact, if approriate, it might be a good idea to replace it with a vapor stat for operating accuracy... with pigtail intact.
