Im getting too much heat upstairs. What i did when i discoverded this problem is i took the t-stat right off the wall upstairs iwent down to see if the zone was still calling, it was.So i cut the t-stat wire right where it comes out of the wall to enter the basement. The zone closed.Does this mean there is a shortage in the t-stat wire portion that is in the wall? Trying to learn help will be appriciated.

Yup...
Sounds like you have a closed circuit betwixt where the wire leaves the stat and enters the basement. If it's a 3 wire, you can use the third leg. If its 2 wire, you'll have to pull a new one, or look into wireless thermostats.
G'Luck!

Did this problem just start? If this wasn't a problem before
maybe you hung up a picture or something that a nail or hanger actually hit the T-stat wire in the wall and closed the circuit giving that zone a continuos call for heat.
Just a long shot but posible.........Dan0
