that the "pros" may not be returning to the ice this year, but who cares! This coming weekend the REAL hockey season starts as my oldest son goes for the rep tryouts!

Ah, cold rinks, bitter coffee and the thrill of watching the sport being played for the joy of just playing! Can't wait!

    Steamhead...

I respectfully have to disagree. How many "professional sports" are still strictly timed? Basketball comes in a close 2nd to Hockey.

When you pay the price to enter the rink, you'll get an honest 60 minutes of action. (much like basketball, but with a faster game pace....and a WHOLE lot less scoring!) Football,(American style...., 16 minutes of action packed into 3 hours of T.V. )YAWN!!!!

The Europeans fans watch football,(soccer in our terms) but as a passion, yet LOW scoring sport.

To each his own. I personally think hockey is a far underated sport. You rarely hear about the guy who has to report to Winnepeg for spring training complaining like the pansies that baseball produces. (I'm ONLY getting 13 million for 3 years? Joe 2nd base from Wherever, who played worse than me...is getting 16.5 for the same time)

Although it IS a game, I realize it's also a business.
That goes for all sports, but the bottom line will be the fan and the passion for it. Fights have been a part of hockey since 1919. It wasn't till the early 80's that it became a baseball pastime. Chris

    Another reason

    Why I like you Chris.

That and All the questions :).

Most Pro's shoul;d get down on thier knees everyday that they get "Payed" to play a game.

    Unless it's WWE or boxing

or something similar, I don't think fighting has any place in professional sports. There used to be a thing called "sportsmanship" but it seems like there's less and less as these people get paid more and more.

Another reason (besides the pathetic Baltimore franchises) I don't "watch the game" much.
