Skim tees

Does it make any difference if a skimming tee is placed on opposite side of wet return/water fill or should they be on the same side?

What?
Not sure exactly what you would be "skimming" from a wet return.0 -
Opposite side if possible
that way the fresh water comes in from one side of the boiler, goes all the way across to the other side and is then skimmed at the top.

a related question
I can see your point but I believe the make-up water won't rise that fast to be skimmed away if it is at a low rate. take into consideration that the water is being pumped into the bottom at a pretty good velocity and is cooler than the top of the boiler.
could you recommend a solution for boiling out a new cast iron steam boiler? Thanks0
