Condensing Boiler Reliability Help...

Jim Kreger
Jim Kreger Member Posts: 3
I have been fighting the reliability of three Glow Core condensing boilers for 10 years. I am looking to replace with reliability as a prime interest. Many manufactures have new products with little history. I am considering Quietside (Koean), Munchkin (US), and others. Any information or service history or opinions is greately appreciated. I need about 300,000 BTU and thus had used three 90,000 Glow core in parallel.

Thanks

    11-44

How about a couple of 11-44 Viessmann Vitodens boilers. They are very compact, wall hung, and reliable. The only issues I know of are coding during setup.

Just curious, what's the application? Radiant?

    Condenser boilers

Pat: The application is hydronics. Water is circulated to 5 zones with heat exchangers and air handlers.

ALH: I have heard good things about these but have wenn concerned with parts availablity in the local Ohio area. I will revist this model however.

    Thanks all

If the required water temp for the heat emitters, your case Air Handlers(usally designed for 160 avg supply water) is above 140 deg aren't we above the condensing point for the boilers and operating out of the condensing mode. Would it make sense to try a high-efficiency boiler which has an AFUE in the high 80% range, just below the condensing point. Controls and service are simple and life expectancy will be longer especially between service and repair bills. The Weil-McLain GV and Burnham Revolution come to mind. Just an idea.

Both the Weil-Mclain and the Burnham use 4" stainless and are very flexible with the venting options verticle or horizontal side wall. The stainless is expensvise, but double wall is available to reduce clearance to combustiable to 1".

    hydro-air & condensing boilers

A little fatter in the coil allows you to design for condensing temps. The air delivery temp is well into the "comfort" range too. Design for the return temp.
