Just received oil boiler weil mclain 170000btu output .What can I do to drop the output to around 125000,btu. Any suggetions .

Piece of cake, cake, cake...
Change the end cone on the bruner for the desired firing rate and put the nozzle size of your choosing in it (downfiring). Be aware a 1.00 GPH nozzle only puts out 1 GPH when at 100 # pressure. W/M and most makers are using well over 100 # in many instances.
Be careful and perhaps call 1-800-oil-burn.

weil boiler
You didn't mention which boiler you have, but look at the firing rate. You can drop it to about 65% of rated firing rate and still have good efficiency, but be careful. Are you using a steam boiler or hot water. Being a Weil, you can easily remove a section or two if needed, but you'll need a new jacket. Talk to your local Weil rep...that's your best bet. But why is the boiler too big???
