Finding the cost per cubic foot of gas
stacks up with the cost of oil . I went to the Keyspan website and they show the rates for the area we work in . Since I never had natural gas and never had a breakdown on a bill , I could not for the life of me decipher the numbers . Does anyone here have natural gas in their home , live in Nassau of Suffolk County , and could tell me the going rate ? Alan Mercurio was very kind in sending me a cost comparing calculator for different fuels , I just need the rate for gas .
Here is the going rate page for my county , if someone has the time to look at it I would greatly appreciate it . Thanks in advance .

Without getting too involved...
Looks like 85-cents a therm. A therm is 100MBTU. Multiply the therm cost by 1.4 (140MBTU's) and you have the cost per gallon equivelant.
My claculator says gas costs around $1.19 a gallon (if you want to compare apples to apples - and if gas were sold by the 140MBTU "unit"/gallon.
The utilities always add something like a $15./month flat charge for the "priveledge" of you having a meter. So, whether you use the gas or not - a fee of $15. is added to actual metered usage.
That seems awfully cheap.

It does seem cheap
For some reason , the link I cut and pasted cuts off about half the info displayed on the rates page - info like applicable taxes and surcharges .
I found a sample bill on the site , and it confuses me more . Seems they break down the bill in 2 - gas delivery cost and gas supply cost .
I think the rate they show is just for gas delivery ( I had to click on " Get local gas delivery rates " to bring up the link I posted first ) . Just seems too low a rate for Long Island .
Heres page 2 of a sample bill -

Thanks Ken for doing the math .0 -
Ron,
For my customers, I use my own bill.
I simply take ALL the BS charges and add 'em all up and divide by the therms I used and multiply by 1.4 Last time I did that (March) and there has been no gas price increases, it was $1.68/gallon equivelant for gas.
