GasNetworks Heating Professionals Conference

The Lantana, Randolph, MA

Thursday, September 9, 2004

This is one of the best educational events of the season, and you sure can't beat the price. It's just $75, and if you register with three other people, you each pay only $65. I've been a part of conference for a bunch of years now, and it's always sold out, so if you have the day open, you should act fast. Here's what it's all about:

We start between 7 a.m and 8 a.m with registration. Coffee and a continental breakfast will be there waiting for you. It's all included. From 8 until 9 we'll listen to Norm Bossio, a nationally known speaker, give the keynote talk, "Get Going! Take charge of your job and your life." How's that for first thing in the morning? Caffeine and that talk. Charge! I've heard nothing but good things about this guy, and I'm really looking forward to hearing his thoughts.

Then from 9 until 10:15 you have a choice. There are four sessions running in different rooms. Pick one (or get up and move around if you prefer).

Bob Genisol on Infrared Heating - a closer look at this type of technology that is gaining wide popularity. Bob is a V.P. at Space-Ray, a leading manufacturer of this equipment. He'll show you how to properly install these energy-saving units, and he'll tell you about the rebate program. You'll do good and do very well, all at the same time.

Joe Walsh of Emerson/Swan on Indirect Water Heating - The new energy-efficient method of heating domestic water. How can you efficiently size for space heating, and still take care of all those multiple showers, baths and hot-tubs that are going into so many modern homes. Joe will show you how, and also tell you about the rebates available to you on this equipment. It just gets better and better, doesn't it?

Randy Boston on EMC Furnaces and Controls. Randy is the Director of Education for the Eastern Heating and Cooling Council. He's going to show you how to troubleshoot some of the newest controls found on today's energy-efficient heating equipment. Why be confused when you can know?

And then there's me, Dan Holohan. I'll be telling you about The Top Ten Dumb Things We Do With Steam. Whether you work with residential or commercial steam systems, I guarantee you'll enjoy, and profit from, the time we spend together. I may flail my arms a but, but that's just because I get excited about this old stuff and making it more efficient, and I've yet to hit anyone, so no worries.

Following the morning session, we take a break, have a coffee, and check out the Exhibitors Showcase. This year, there are more than 15 manufacturers, all showing their latest energy-efficient equipment. The Showcase is open from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. so you'll have plenty of time to walk and wonder.

After the coffee break, we'll all get together again for a general session on Moisture and Mold. Terry Brennan of Camroden Associates will give this talk, and I know you're going to pick up many tips on how to see the building as a system, and how to protect your customers' health. Mold is a very hot topic nowadays, and the more you know, the better off you're going to be. Hey, why shouldn't you be the one with the answers?

After the general session, we'll break for an hour and fifteen minutes to have a great lunch, courtesy of GasNetworks. This is a good time to network with your fellow heating professionals. Then, from 1:15 until 2:15, you again have a choice of four sessions. They are:

Proper Duct Sealing Techniques, given by Randy Boston. He'll show you how to improve comfort, increase efficiency, and reduce callbacks on every installation. Even Wetheads need to be concerned about air movement nowadays, and Randy has much to tell us.

Special Gas Venting - Categories II, III, and IV gas appliances. Tom Williams of Heat Fab, Inc. heads up this informative session. Learn the differences between these categories and Category I, and also the criteria for a proper installation, and much more.

Indoor Air Quality and HVAC, taught by Terry Brennan. Ten things you can do to make an HVAC system provide better-quality air. Three things to avoid. What you can expect from filters. Why you shouldn't use duct tape on ducts (Yikes!), and a whole lot more.

And then there's me again. This time on Equipment Sizing. I'll talk to you about pipes and boilers and pumps and how to save money on all of them, while delivering even more comfort to your customers.

And then we gather once again in a general session and I'm back up at the plate. I have some stories to share, some troubleshooting tips, a bit of fatherly advice, and lots of food for thought. And at this age, I tend to ramble a bit, but I promise to keep it interesting, finish on time, and make it fun.

Finally (as if all that wasn't enough for 75 bucks), we'll have the legendary GasNetworks Raffle, Reception and Exhibits. This goes on for a while, and I'm here to tell you that the folks at GasNetworks put out a most excellent spread of snacks and drinks. Lots of good vibes, and a terrific way to end a most-educational day.

All that for $75. Or $65 if you happen to have three friends.

Is it any wonder this thing sells out every year?

You coming? Call 1-800-662-9222 right now. There's very limited space. Ya snooze, ya lose.

Hope you make it in. Thanks.
Retired and loving it.

    The energy at this show

is something to see. It's really a great time, and you sure can't beat the price. The after-party alone is worth the price of the ticket.
