Boiler Insulation

Please assist with source of data on amount (thickness) of boiler insulation, as well as the material type and the suppliers. I am considering replacing asbestos insulation on my 70+ years old Weil-McLain steam boiler. The asbestos will be removed by a certified contractor.

Thank you.

    Boiler Insulation

    There are few reasons, as you can understand, I delay that:

    1) Too expensive, to justify for next 4-6 years;
    2) Was told that the boiler would/should last...

    its a roll of the dice

    " Do you feel lucky, well do ya ? "

    ITs not a 45 magnum but its old boiler that in my opinion has gone way beyond its life expectancy. I always consul my customers to make the change on oyur time because the boiler will pick New Years Eve.

    AT the effecincy of that boiler I don't see where any insualtion is going to make a big differnce.

    Others may tell you different.

    Good Luck

    Scott

    insulag

    I agree w' the other fellas on replacing the museum piece that is now heating your home. Should you opt to get more life outta this boiler, you could try insulating w' insulag and use 'smooth kote' on top of that. Maybe you should read some of the posts regarding CO. They may be fitting for what you're trying to do.

    Ernie,

    What is CO? If you mean CO gas, I do have a detector in the basement.

    Why would you waste money

    on a 70 yr old boiler? Save and get it all replaced. I'm sure your contractor would charge less if the job was a removal of the boiler. No need to do an intense cleaning on a boiler thats being pulled out.
