Oil Heat Cares
An Industry Project that Benefits our Communities
If you havent heard about this new project, you will! Spearheaded by Dan Holohan, NAOHSM and other dedicated people, such as Kevin Rooney, Oil Heat Institute of Long Island were raising funds to help buy yes buy equipment at cost from manufacturers so that our 30 NAOHSM Chapters and Virtual Members (National Direct Members) can identify projects in their neighborhoods where they can make a difference. We all have families that can use a helping hand an example of such can be found on our website www.naohsm.org. This past spring, the Long Island Service Managers got together and installed a new comfort system in home for a family where there lives changed due to a swimming accident. The Equipment was donated and time was donated. Other projects are in the works. Now it is our job to raise funds.
October 6-7, 2004, Holiday Inn, Baltimore, MD, 6 dedicated educators have donated their time to teach. Wednesday, Alan Mercurio, Oiltech Talk will be doing a custom burner workshop, followed by John Levey, Oilheat Associates will be talking about Oil Tanks. After lunch, Bob Hedden, Oilheat Associates will introduce the new and exciting Gold Book and hell introduce to attendees to a couple of the topics covered in the book Efficiency of Oil Heat and a Guide to Energy Conservation (points that are important to all of you responsible for sales). Dave Yates, F.W. Behler, writer for Contractor Magazine will talk about Water Heaters for Dual use Potable/Hydronic Applications.
After a relaxing evening, (weve got a party in between) attendees will begin Thursday morning with a seminar by George Lanthier, Firedragon Enterprises. Georges seminar is titled, Heating System Control Troubleshooting (Urban Legends & Just Stupid Mistakes on Air). Following George will be Jim Erhardt, Slant Fin. Hell teach us about Heat Loss Calculations. Then after lunch, Jim Peters (whos done a number of 2-day service managers workshops for NAOHSM) will help take the mystery out of those financial reports youve been charged with reading. And batting clean-up is Dan Holohan youll probably hear and see Dan throughout the 2 days his talk will be about Steam.
The cost of this 2-day benefit extravaganza is $99.00 for one day or $198.00 for two days. Thanks to some very kind sponsors as of 8/17/04 Bradford-White, Testo, Slant-Fin, Honeywell ALL proceeds raised from the seminar will go to Oil Heat Cares. To make this a financially successful event, we sure could use some additional sponsors we can use door prizes, sponsorship of food for the party in-between and we still could use a lunch sponsor and certainly CASH donations are always very welcome.
Together, as an Industry, we can make a difference! To participate as a sponsor, call Judy Garber 888-552-0900 or e-mail me at info@naohsm.org. To register for the seminars go to www.naohsm.org or simply call me.

So far,
Oil Heat Cares has put in a new heating system for a Long Island family whose son is paralyzed from the neck down after a swimming accident. OHC has also installed a new heating system in a Hazelton, PA home for kids with physical disabilities. OHC is currently replacing the heating system in a womens shelter in Maryland, and there are other projects planned.
Oil Heat Cares is young, but its working.
All the money were raising at new weeks seminars will fund future projects.
Last week, I got an email from an angry guy who told me that this sort of thing is taking money out of his pocket. He said that he will never help these people because when Oil Heat Cares volunteers do a job for free, and with equipment that Oil Heat Cares buys with raised funds, it cuts down on the available work thats out there for him.
I wrote back and tried to explain to this guy that the only difference between him and the people were helping is about six paychecks, but he never wrote back.
I hope you can make it to one or both days in Baltimore.

Cooking with PAH
Hey! It's not "waste" heaters, it's water heaters and man have I got some inside info to share. Your competition won't get this info unless you feel like giving away your edge.
Wanna know the real deal with on-demand water heater capacity? The real GPM flow rates?
The skinny on "Limited Free Cooling"?
Legionella - friend or foe?
Twinning water heaters for fun & profit?
We'll stir the pot and it won't be boring. You'll learn how to look at this work in a new enlightened way that will enable you to put more money in your pocket while better serving your customers. Once you know the facts, you own them and no one can take that away.
And, best of all, I'll tell you my secrets about how I became an ace oil burner troubleshooter - guaranteed to give you a chuckle or three.
I've been through the school of hard knocks (that's why I look this way!) and the stuff you'll learn here will let you skip a grade or two(G).
