    Flow check

Circ. on the supply side.....called pumping away. Flow check goes after the circ.. You might want to dig a little deeper because I belive you will also need a back flow preventer to prevent the heat from backing up to the last
room. (Watts 9D or combo) if your in Massachusetts it's
    code.

    flow checks

If you are using zone valves, you won"t need any flow checks at all. The flow check is there to prevent convective circulation and over heating. A closed zone valve will stop any unwanted circulation. If you did not have zone valves, then you would need to have a flow check on every zone.
The backflow preventor is to protect the potable water supply from contamination from the boiler, it has nothing to do with heat flow.

    Steve,

No chance of back heating the last rad' without a back flow preventer on the return (end of loop) at the boiler? Portable water supply?

    Nomenclature

Dan, it sound like you are refering to a flow check placed at the return end of a zone - perfectly good application. The backflow preventer (9D etc) is typically applied only to prevent a reentry of boiler water to the potable supply and not substituted for either a spring check, swing check or flow check in the system piping. Enjoy.......Dan
