My wife Linda
and I stayed at one of these resorts over thirty fi---oops misprint---years ago.
I seem to remember the name Cove Haven but I'll have to ask her. This was back in the times when a honeymoon was, well you get my point. Not that there is anything wrong with todays culture, just different.
Great memory.0 -
Hey Cheese
We were on a limited budget so we didin't get the room with the martini/champagne glass tubs, only got to see pictures.

Ah the memories
It will be 44 years ago this September 10 that Judy and spent our honeywmoon in the Poconos at Birchwood. I do not know if it is still there.0 -
I live in East Stroudsburg
It was NOT the one on 209 in Marshalls Creek, PA, but rather the one on PA 940, just South of the Mt. Pocono borough in a village known as Paradise Valley.
This one is called "Ceasars Paradise Stream". The one in Marshall's Creek is the "Pocono Palace", another in Swiftwater (Only a few miles from Paradise Stream) is called Ceasar's "Brookdale on the Lake". Cove Haven is also one of their resorts, located on Rt 590, almost right on Lake Wallenpaupack.
Don't be surprised if you find out that the fire was electrical in nature, these Pocono resorts, by and large, are noted for their substandard wiring. I heard the call go out for this one, BTW, and it was reported to be a "wire on fire attached to a building".
I went by there yesterday, and the damage is severe.
This resort is one that had the 7' "Champagne towers", (Bathtubs...) but I don't THINK that they are in the damaged building on that property.
Damn shame, too. Lots of excellent shows were still being booked there, famous comedians, etc.0 -
Sorry, Tim, but Birchwood
Is closed. Has been for a few years. It was bought by a group of Asian investors, who intended to turn it into a large Taoist conference center, but that venture failed.
It, like many others, had been getting really run down over the years. That was a nice resort, too. It had it's own private landing strip. Lots of big names would fly in there for the weekends.
In the final years prior to it's closing, it had gained notoriety for "spanking" conventions, which were, of course, not well received around here.0 -
Thanks Dave,
Sorry to hear that we had wanted to go back someday and visit.0 -
There are other nice resorts still going strong here, that you might've passed by, or heard of, like Mountain Manor Inn and Golf Course. (A customer of mine, and my favorite golf course...) That's a nice family run operation in Marshall's Creek, with lots of things to do, especially if you're a golfer, but plenty of other family things, depending on the season.
Penn Hills is another one, which is right in the village of Analomink, not far from Birchwood.
Skytop is still doing well, also.
Lots to do here, lots of shopping for the women to do also, if they are so inclined.0 -
Ah, Penn Hills.
That's where Linda and I stayed. Nice to know it's still around.
Another great memory on the Wall.0 -
I drive through there almost every day.
It still looks good.
They're the ones with the heart shaped red bathtubs, I think...0 -
Great memories?
My wife and I went to Penn Hills, they did have heart shaped tubs in the cottages - ours came with some mysterious rodent that would pop out from under the tub, run around the room a few times, then disappear. He's even in the video that no one will ever see. The bathrooms didn't have any doors, either - real sexy!0
