Primary loop Circulator

How can I size a pump for a primary loop on a new system. The boiler being used is a peerless pinnacle model 199. My primary loop is only 25 feet in total length. Thanks for any help.

You base it on what the secondary circuits are doing.

  • If the primary pump only has to over come the head less in the primary loop , why does the secondary circit matter

    more than the head loss,

the primary circulator moves the required btu's that the combined secondary circuits need..in gpm.

  • I'm sorry I ment to Type the Secondary circulator the circulator that just pumps through the boiler. Not the system circulator.

    And also

the temperature drop across the primary loop comes into play. You can't know that until you know what the secondary circuits are going to do. This determines the system's high-limit temperature. Usually, you can use circulators and piping on both primary and secondary circuits that are smaller than first planned if you do the math. More money in the contractor's pocket.

I beleive for the 199 the HTP book says 0011. The 140 is a 0010.
