I used to flat black the black iron and give it a bit of a krylon rebuild appearance..it makes the black iron look alot tidier ....the two inch looks maybe perfection:) what type of boiler is that? i mean manufacture name? there are some things we dont have here...did i mention the 1"&1/2 looked good:) sometimes i take the pump apart and make sure it is repairable in place then when its being installed its alot lighter and the placement of the pumps is a bit easier...

    such beautiful work...

pity the pumps with the near vertical motor shafts wont last too long - when they die, you could replace them with grundfoss pumps that are not as long and and then stagger adjacent ones forward and backward along the header - ie move one pump 1.5" forward and the adjcent one 1.5" backward, so that you would have enough room to be able to have the motors horizontal like the docs say they should be

    again: really nice

I'm 6'4" and high pumps are ideal for me to work on!!!! We've never had a problem with the taco pumps installed this way. A Taco rep told us specifically that it was not a problem. They are staggered as well for ease of service.

It is a Pensotti BL-4. We use Hi gloss black to dress the iron. Makes it look nice.

    Thanks,

    Circ. gaskets

Ken, it looks like you have also changed a few 007's in your day. Did you also get sick of trying do remove the black gasket that comes with the circ? I ding them and use the red rubber also.....good choice. EJW

Always put full flange gaskets. Its the only way to go whether you will be the next one there or not!!!

Well, congrats on the new camera Ken.

Here is what I did yesterday on Pnobscot Bay instead of working on the building. Went to Southwest Harbor. Can you say dodge lobstah?

    my experiance is the opposite

i like the ring type, i put a little food service grade slicone/teflon grease on them, hand tighten, and just snug it up with the wrench, and it's fine forever – the silicone keeps the atmospheric ozone off them and they last and last

the full flange ones, seem to need RTV and heavy wrenching

off course i am a stickler for well aligned, and well supported pump installs – I just hate it when the flanges are a major load bearer, I only wish the ring type were true O-rings with ring slots on the flange half also

i recently had a Grundfos that was chattering - and i had the pump on and off three times
before i found the dirt in the outlet spring check that was causing it – imagine if I had to deal with a well tightened and rtv’d flange gaskets – ugh

that episode also sold me on the Grundfos, imagine trying to get the dirt out a taco IFC with the check embedded in the EYE of the pump – it means a disassembly of the pump as opposed to just pulling it off, as on the Grundfos

    RTV?

I have never had a full flange gasket give me problems and I don't put a thing on them.

    Amen Kal

I hear you with debris in the IFC model circs.Grundfos flow checks are serviceable!I've had two that have had wood chips in them.I can't imagine what you would do with the Tacos.
