    A homeowner's perspective

When I first visited heatinghelp.com I spent most of my time in "heating Q&A" and "hot tech topics" before I discovered the wall.

I remember being impressed with http://www.heatinghelp.com/newsletter.cfm?Id=62
(special note - item number 18) and thinking "why don't the contractors around here subscribe to this?"

    Interesting list...

The crews (a/c and sewer installers) that I worked with broke at least half of those rules on a daily basis, much to my embarrassment. Now I know why I never got offered a drink of water and was many times refused use of the bathroom. The bathroom thing was a major peeve of mine - since I knew the importance of drinking water, but the boss didn't want anyone leaving the site often for that "luxury". What do you guys do for that?

If a crew is doing work at my home, they are offered water, soda, and ice tea, all they want. And lunch - sandwiches, pizza, chinese, they chose. The bathroom is available, with scrubbing soap and old towels at their disposal. I like to see both parties meeting halfway, for everyones benefit.

    Jobsite Radios

Any contractors that wish to work for me will have to agree in writing that there will be no jobsite radios, no smoking, no alcoholic beverages and no horseplay. As an experienced amateur builder/repairman, I have seen too many quality errors. Someone needs to minimize workplace distraction. Sorry, guys, but you need to recognize who the customers - the persons who pay you - are and respect them.

    And that is

    your right as an owner.

Most owners and contractors however, have no porblem with a radio at a proper level and no offensive music.

Some hospitals have music in the operating room.
