Slant Fin Boiler

I am going to put a boiler in a closet alongside a exterior wall for hot water baseboard heat.
This is a major remodel. I tore the roof off a ranch and made a 1 and a half story house.
It would be nice not to run a new chimney so I have been looking at direct vent Burnhams and Weil Mclains.
I stopped in a supply house here in Central Indiana. They said that they could get me a Slant Fin sealed combustion direct vent boiler for nearly 600 dollars less than the Weil Mclain or Burnham.
I know that Slant Fin has been around for a long time and I believe that they are a very reputable company. But I have been around long enough myself to know that you get what you pay for.
The boiler is called a VSPH=90 from their Victory series.

Has anyone had any experience with this boiler?

    Slant/Fin sealed combustion boiler

Slant/Fin has recently tightened up its product offering in sealed combustion products. The VSP or VSPH have proven technologies and the ones I have inspected are very quiet. In my opinion, it's a good value.

    Where?

Didn't know anybody in this area was peddling Slant/Fin at the moment! Must not stock it or let their customers know!

    Slant;/Fin makes a good boiler

and if anything should go wrong, they have great people to back it up.

As with any boiler, it must be installed properly to perform well.

    i live in brooklyn NY...

and have seen vsph boilers being made - they are without a doubt – the best boiler for the buck – hands down – and if you pipe it with primary/secondary/var-speed-injection – a-la-tekmar 361 – you will have a really great – economical and long lived system – noel murdough – is always there to help you nmurdough@slantfin.com 800-873-4346 or 516-484-2610

just as an example – my avg slant fin install is designed for 180/160 20 day, but with the tekmar setup, on the avg day, the boiler loop cycles between 146-154 and the system loop136-142 – the boiler runs 2-3min out of 15 – and yes, BaseBoards work with supply temps way below the standard tables which start at 140 – tekmar knows this, and uses the outdoor temp to aggressively drop the BB supply temp!!! – saves a bundle without corroding or short-cycling the boiler – you will get efficiencies and cost reductions approaching those with condensing boilers and radiant heat

sorry for sounding like a slant-fin or tekmar salesman ;)

ps – make sure you follow the guidelines for venting – I have seen too many direct vent’s discharged through the wall near a window where the gases can be sucked right back into the house
