I just choose, for the most part, not to ;-) There isn't even reset on this one. The control theory consists of a two stage set-point control, ala, Wirsbo 512. The first stage operates the pump and the second stage fires the burner. One of the beautiful things about the Vitola is the large mass of boiler and water. Naturally, the other benefit is no low limit requirements. It can run all day at 100° and store quite a bit of energy. On a call for heat, the pump starts and tries to use all of the availble boiler heat first. The burner then starts if the load calls for it. Once the second stage is satisfied, it drops out the burner, but lets the pumps keep running until the first stage is satisfied. It will always purge down the boiler. Another advantage to the Vitola is the fact that there are neglegible off cycle losses. So it can sit all day and not loose much energy up the flue or into the mechanical room. I really like the Vitodens, but I love this boiler!
The indirect is controlled by a Tekmar 150. More precise response than a 4006. Also, the differential can be adjusted to two degrees so the burner will come on quicker. Again, no worry about short cycling of the burner with such a tight differential, due to the mass of the Vitola.
All of that with an AFUE of 89.7%. I'm figuring a 50% reduction in fuel usage. We'll see.

hb

Whus up?
No Super Brute?Very nice.No pics of the broken pieces??

Who are you kidding ?
If you call that basic stuff , I could imagine what you call a simple pin type cast boiler with a 4081 aquastat . The Dark Ages ?
Great work Heatboy . Is that combo - gage , relief , air eliminator specifically made for Viesmann ? Is the system converted from gravity heat ?0 -
Could'nt find the
eccentric couplings huh ?
Nice job Jeff. How do you like those Ball valves ? Are they made ust for P.P. ?
Thanks for the nice little lesson on system design. Is this C.I. radiators ? I would have looked at condensing for that but your application is spot one. There's more than one way to skin a cat. Notice they never say stuff like that about dogs.
Keep up the simple stuff lol.

Vitola
Is still my favorite!
Great job as always,HB.Where did you find a orange one?
Been trying to get a propress ball valve. How do you like them?0 -
say hb, what brand are those pp ball valves? tnx

How do you keep those pipes so straight with the Propress?

Vitola
The most versatile boiler on the planet. It stands alone in a class all by itself, nothing else like it that I've come across. They are a joy to put in because of the outstanding design and the capability of functioning magnificently in any system design situation.
There would be no terrorism if Osama owned a Vitola. It would calm his agitated noggin with the sweet sound of a perfectly designed piece of equipment doing its job........... well maybe that's a little hyperbolic but.......
(Do you think I'm maybe over the edge a little in regards to this boiler?)

better yet...
put a McDdonalds near him
with his 70+ kids screaming for a "happy meal" he will be to busy to make trouble0 -
Eccentric?
Thanks, Scott! I've been called many things (some I can't say) over the years, but I don't think eccentric is one of them.
I am pretty sure no wholesaler would have had eccentric couplings. I had thought briefly about reducing 90's and turning them down. But, as you see, the thought was fleeting.
Yes, the house is all cast iron. The fuel is #2 so condensing isn't a viable option. This two stage arrangement with the Vitola will be just as good.
The press valves are made by Cimberio. All kinds of cool press valves that I can't seem to get. I did purchase these through my ProPress guy. I may be able to sell off my acetylene inventory soon!

I agree, Steve.
The Vitola has been around for years and it is still the ultimate boiler, especially when it comes to fuel oil. My indoctrination to Viessmann was through the Vitola. The first time I saw it at a trade show, it just made sense to me. I have them in every conceivable application and they perform flawlessly. I haven't tried the new Vitoflame burner with all of the Vitodens projects of late. I'm looking forward to the next Vitola for that reason.

I suppose I am showing my age
The kids here have probable never heard of eccentric couplings. I suppose when it comes right down to it, do you really need them. With the ProPress not really. No leaks.
By the way Jeff, is the two stage done in the control or thermostat ?
And who's thermostat did you use ?

Waiting for burners
We're in the process of installing a pair of 63's in the local community center. The chassis burners are supposedly due the middle of Sept.
These boilers are connected to a little over 450K worth of brand new Radson and Vasco Rads.
I'll post some pics when done 1st of Oct. To date we have run over 1/4 mile of inch and a half copper + 1/2" to the rads in the old ductwork under the floor of this place.
It's been a little rough on the old back this summer. One "tunnel" to go yet. (another 700')0 -
you like the pro press so let me ask....
when you have large fittings 3 and 4" is there some sorta Trick to getting the T's straight ? i spent many hours lining them all out and was extremely dissapointed with them altogether.0 -
Weezbo
I know this is your second post about propress fittings and the larger fittings. You may have found the one draw back to the pp system.
As all new tools and equipment finds its place, maybe the propress system is not whats needed for the 3" and 4" fittings. It would be a shame as the larger the fitting the larger the savings in time.
