Another Vitodens project just completed.

I’ve just finished up with this 200 year old home retrofit. Their 75% AFUE conventional boiler was removed and replaced with Viessmann’s Vitodens 200 8/32. This home has four zones of high Temp. emitters and one radiant floor with indirect DHW and a Grundfos Comfort System™.

The customer service I’ve received from RST Reps. and Viessmann US head office has been nothing short of outstanding throughout this project. I look forward to my next Vitodens project that’s now in the works.

    Not only a great install...

...but one that will save the owners bundles of $$$. They must be very happy.

I really like your attention to detail and the clean layout that anyone can follow.
  • Thank you gentlemen for the kind words.

John, The special process I used for coating these pipes was to simply spray them with a can of spray-paint. It takes just a little time to do and the results are well worth the effort.

Hot Rod, Those are in fact a couple of Lee Brooks “Speed Headers.” Surprised you recognized them with all the make up;-)

    Curious about your layout?

    Gary,

Looking at your system I notice that your automatic fill valve and expansion tank seem to be located on the system side (supply?)of the LLH while the Spirovent is on the other supply side. Is there a reason why you aren't "pumping Away" from the PONPC?

It seems that you have also installed a ball valve for a bypass around the auto fill valve. Why not just use the lever? What if that valve gets turned on?

You must have built this system board in the horizontal position ans then mounted it vertically. Nothing I can find wrong with your work especially the neatnes and organization (other than the shorts you wear to work and your unshaven condition;-)Just kidding.

Well done fine looking project that any logical mind can follow. The colored tape on each zone are a nice touch. The owners of this system are lucky to have someone like yourself to take such pride in his craft.

How do they like the Grundfos Comfort System so far?

    Very........

nice work Gary. This Industry needs more people who take pride in what they do.

  • Jody,

I have the Spirovent on the secondary side to eliminate any air that gets by the air elimination device that comes mounted on top of the Vitodens. Although I’ve not located the air eliminator AT the P.O.N.P.C. I’m pretty close to that area which also has the fill devices. I put a full size bypass (around) the auto fill valve to speed air purging which can be a real hassle with the Vitodens. If the system pump cavitates for just a split second; you have a system (Error 02). The fast fill lever restricts the flow WAY TOO MUCH. Leave the valve on and you get wet real quick. That’s why I allways remove this lever on the ball valve:)

This near boiler piping layout is new to me as well. I chose to follow the suggested piping from Viessmann. I had originally submitted a drawing to them which followed an example of constant circulation using 3 way zone valves. That drawing was rejected by them with prejudice as too complicated. I now see why.

Yes I did built this system panel in the horizontal in the shop. Just makes sense to do as much off site as possible.

The grundfos Comfort System seems to be dumping way too much hot water into the cold water mains. Team Grundfos is sending out their Rep to have a lookie into this problem.

Re: my attire, It’s summertime. Isn’t it ok to wear shorts to work and not shave?
