Generac Generators

Roy,
If you're already swamped and profitable, why in the hell would you want to go to work for your competitor?
Get a line of generators yourself and make the profit on them instead of benefitting Hore Depot.

    Co-Generation

Home Depot is after me to gas pipe (LP or Natural) all the Generac Generators the are selling. Seems interesting but I'm already swamped with installs and service. Any thoughts about the actual product or the HD?????

    Generac

When I worked in the family hardware store we sold Generac for a while. I said for a while. We got tired of burned out rotors, voltage regulators, rectifiers etc.
We switched to Onan and have had excellent results with them. We had a rental unit that we retired with over 3,500 hours of run time on it. Kubota made the gas engine on that one. I heard recently that they were getting out of the portable market though.

    Standby generator

If these units were making electricity and making use of jacket water or heat recovery from the exhaust,it would be co-generation. That would be some interesting work to build heating systems around a home -size cogen, but there is no way the units from HD would hold up to that duty. I have had the same experience as Steve with Generac and have found Onan to be much better. I think Cummins owns them now.

Here is a REAL cogen system to admire! (Cut and paste the following link as I STILL have not figured out how to post a proper clickable link! Help!)
