Steam zone valves

Can anybody direct me toward a manufacturer of zone valves for steam systems? I have a client who wants to install a Super Stor 80 on live steam, and we need to isolate the heat side of the system.

Thanks,

Guy

    Interesting!

I would much sooner use a tankless coil if so fitted - or retro-fit one if the hole's there in the block...

Or, install a water zone/leg off the steam boiler (Dan has it drawn up in stuff on the left I believe) to heat the indirect.

I douibt very much if you want live steam geiing into the SS and how would the condensate be removed? Unless of course the bottom of the SS HX is mounted above the NOWL?

    Steam

This is a commercial application. The SSU 80 and 119 are approved for use with live steam. Obviously, the piping has to be watched closely, but it can, and has been , done.
My fear is that the harsh enviornment that steam creates may not lend itself to a long lived valve.

    Steam Zone valves

Go to www.invensysIBS.com, Products, Erie, "Product Literature", and you have data on two way and modulating zone valves. Erie "VS..." zone valves are for Steam applications, VT's are general or water duty. Steam valves are on/off only (not modulating), if you want modulating it is a globe valve with actuator (more $). Your local Erie wholesaler may stock them or will be able to order it and have it in a few days.

    Steam

We have had good success with the Armstrong instant heaters, no water tank and very little service needed on a decent water system.

    Devil is in the Detail

Hi, Dan.! Yes, that is still an all time great article. If the application is right (what do you expect from the installation?), the valve isn't oversized, the job is designed correctly, with vacuum breaker, trapped correctly and a good control setup, it can work well. These valves work fairly fast, 9 to 11 seconds to open and 4 to 5 seconds (spring N/C) to close. Since it is commercial, think about liability, how will you fail-safe it from overheating? What do local codes require? What is the steam pressure, I assumed less than 15 psi. Lots of questions to answer and work to do before you pipe it up or change the design. Art :)

    steam modulating applications

honeywell makes steam modulating valves and i have been using them for over 30 years and they work very well. be 100 % sure of your piping design and arrangement. if done incorrectly you will wish you were dead.zoning with steam is big league.
