Y Strainers

Are Y strainers effective if placed in line with the main air vents on a steam system? The reason I ask this is I found four brand new ones in a box in an odd corner of my basement and it appears that someone at sometime in the past had intended to do just that. They are all sized for the pipes the vents are on and numbered with little tags; #1 to #1 vent, #2 to #2 vent, etc.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yes they are
It would appear from your find that your assumption is correct.Your vents will last longer as long as you steam your strainers to dump the strained particles.
Something I learned yesterday in Dans Steam Roadshow! Thanks Dan!Had a great day.

A bit of caution
Strainers are great as long as applied correctly. If condensate can collect in a strainer you may want to install the strainer on it's side in a horizontal run.0 -
