No Jackchip, I don't live near Troon and will not be at the Open. But Monty will be there and I hope he will do it for Scotland.
If you would like to know anything about Scotland, just email me. I will try to give you some light hearted insight into my homeland.
Kind regards.
Jimmy Gillies.

    Alu Pex.

I was watching This Old House, at the weekend & the Plumber (Richard?) was using a Pex pipe with a Alu layer on the outside. He formed bends with it & also used crimp fittings with it. It was straight & well finished, can anyone please tell me what this Pex is called? I have never seen it here in the UK.
    Kind regards.

    Most likely

It was Stadler-Viega Pex-AL-Pex. Their term for it is Fosta-Pex, short for Form-Stable Pex. It is exactly that, form stable. When you bend it, it stays put. Their crimp sleeve encloses the whole end of the tube giving it a nice finished appearance. Much nicer look than the ring type systems out there. They used a lot of that particular brand on the show. Nice product to work with. We use it for a lot of different applications. What type of tools did you see them using to crimp the fittings? A little more detail might help pinpoint what exactly you saw. Did you see them peeling the outside layer of the tube prior to assembling the fitting? That would definitely be Fost-Pex.

    Jimmy...

...have you talked to the "Unipipe" people before? I don't know where in the UK you live, but contact Bernard Piggott, he is one of their Regional Sales Managers and could send you in the right direction.

His number is 07976-608504 OR his office number is 01455-550355. Unipipe has Pex-Al-Pex. Bernard is a great (and funny) guy who will drive miles for you when you need him.

Hope this helps and please let me know how you made out.

    Regards,

    Mike

    Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, It did not appear to be a multilayer pipe? The Alu layer was on the outside. The chap had a tool to peal back the Alu layer & then put a ring over the pealed section of bare Pex, prior to using a hand crimping tool.
We have lots of multilayer pipe here, with the Alu mid wall & a white Pex finish.
    Thanks again
    Jimmy.

    Mike.

Thanks Mike for taking the time to reply, I live in God's country Scotland, where we have short arms & deep pockets.

I don't think I have met Bernard, yet? I have seen Unipipe & it has many fine qualities, the only problem with it, is, it has a 16/20mm OD & we us 15/22mm OD as standard here in the UK.

Mike the pipe Richard? used had it's Alu layer outside, not like a multilayer pipe.

    Thanks again.
    Jimmy.
  • not sure about....

what they showed on this old house, but Becker Plastics in Germany makes an Alu-Pex. It is a full size (thickness - ASTM tube) with a fuse welded aluminum skin that is sprayed with a thin layer of plastic paint on the outside. Cool stuff. Very expensive (30% more then PEX).

You can remover the Aluminum and you have a fully rated piece of PEX.... coooooooooool.

The This Old House website lists:
    aluminum-clad pex tubing
    manufactured by

    Probably was Stadler-Viega

Their tube is silver on the outside and on TV it would likely appear that they were working with a tube that had an aluminum jacket.

    No answer

to your question, Jimmy. Just curious, are you close to Royal Troon and will you be going to the Open?

    The Scotlandish people have...

...deep pockets and short arms??? I know a couple of them people too. But have not yet met a Scottish bloak who had that problem. Maybe because most I met at a pub......anyways, kidding aside, I hope you'll find what you are looking for. The post above about the Viega pipe seems like a good one. I don't know who would have it your end of the woods, but maybe try calling some friends at BegetubeUK. They may have something, or send you in the right direction locally to you. Ask for Rory Haigh at 07771-773618 OR his office at 01463-246600, email rory@begetube.co.uk.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Mike

    More on Golf.

Ah Golf, I think it was Robin Williams who said ''Golf, it lets white guys dress like coloured pimps''.
Now I'm not sure if that's why King James II banded young men from playing it in the 16th centuary or not?
I say ''Golf, it lets a married man play around and stay married''
It's a great game and I hope to see some of the British open on the telly.
    KInd regards.

    I would love

to visit Scotland some day. My mothers side of the Family comes from the Stuart Clan. The story is, the ancestors ran over here after Mary Queen of Scotts was beheaded. (for inventing Golf???) My Uncles recently funeral they finished with amazing Grace on 2 bagpipes. Such a sweet and moving sound. I'd love to see the highlands. WW

    How about

    Wetstock number ????????

Dan could book Royal Troon and the golfers in the group could meet on the postage stamp for a cold one (Tonic for me).

Could Scotland handle Murph and the boys and girls, Jimmy?

    Jack.

The Romans did not venture to far in Scotland, so I'm sure we could handle anything. But any golfers should not dress to loudly, it's bad for the eyes if you have a hang-over!
NO! pink plusfours, lemon pullovers, red socks & white golf shoes.
    Regards.
    Jimmy.
