replacing toilet

Member Posts: 12
the toilet is so full of deposits that it no olonger flushes ok. A while back you told me to replace it coz it is so old. You recommended one with a good flush. I am concerned that the 1.6 gallon flush might not be enough to get it to the sewer line and I will have clogging, the old one is 3+ gallons. Could you please make that recommendation again. thank you. does it come in colors my old one is pink and I don't want to redo the whole bathroom. help!!! trudy

Toto
makes the best toilet; many styles to choose from, just make sure it has the G-MAX flushing system.
Pink? That might be the hardest part.

Toto
You could look into a power flush with the preasure assisted tank, just be warned they are loud.
I agree with Alan Toto G-Max.

There have
been numerous studies on drain carry, Trudy and they have proven that 1.6 gallon flush toilets do not create drain carry problems.
As far as the type to buy, Toto is considered the best but most of the manufactures now produce 1.6 gallon toilets that work properly. Many manufacturers have cut back on the number and type of colors they produce but someone must still make pink.
Have you tried Google and type in "pink toilets"?
Good luck,

GERBER makes water closets in color pink and they work fine.0 -
\"Pink\" isn't necessarily pink
depending on who made the old toilet. American-Standard had its version, Eljer had theirs, Kohler had still another, etc.
Before having to deal with a color-matching problem, have a pro try some Calci-Solve or similar chemical in the old one. This might clear it out. You definitely don't want to handle this stuff yourself, it's rather nasty!

Pink not always pink.
Can you EVER say that again!!!
The story in the back of an issue of Fine Homebuilding comes to mind. I had similar problem with an American Standard toilet in "Fawn Beige".
If there is much of anything in the room that is pink or red or orange, you will swear that a beige fixture is pink! Try to block off the toilet from the room with big pieces of white paper (or remove to sunlight) to be sure.
I have two general colors of "white" that I use for trim. One is slightly warm with 1/128th of an ounce of magenta tint and about 3/64 ounce of grey tint to a gallon of Benjamin Moore white Impervo.
As long as there is no significant amount of red--any form--in the space, you would never know that the magenta is there. Put it in a space with lots of red and you'd swear it's titty pink. In that case I use 1/64th of an ounce of bright blue tint to the gallon--this makes an extremely bright, crisp white. In spaces without a significant amount of red this cool white looks glaring and sterile.0 -
Second the Toto
Have a look for the MAP report on toilets... done in Canada by two independent consultants with a lot of time (and soy paste) on their hands.
The Toto Drake came out on top, with the highest capacity of any gravity-based toilet. Pressure-assist toilets go even further, but who wants to listen to a jet taking off every time they pull the handle?
Allegedly, the American Standard Champion with its flushtower technology is pretty good as well and sells at a much lower price point.
We went for the Toto Baldwin, which will fit into the home decor even though it's not the best toilet as far as flush capacity is concerned. Oh well.0 -
I agree.
Costco bathroom cleaner is mildly acidic and formulated for high calcium carbonate "hardness" water problems.
That stuff and one of those green sponge shaped coarse non-steelwool pads worked wonders on our fawn beige A/S cadets and looked like new - despite being 15+ yrs. old. I was about to dump 'em, but the nightmares of noise and poor carry just overwhelmed me. I'm glad I never changed now. They are spotless and work better than anything currently on the market - with the possible exception of the Toto. They are the best - if you must change.

fixing your toilet
many times a poor flushing toilet can be fixed by pushing solder into the little holes around the rim to clean out the mineral build up. bob

Solder is
Too soft for that job, use an old wire coat hanger. The hook fits right in there.

I use a
6 penny (can't afford nickle) galvanized nail and it's kept on the shelf hidden behind----never mind.
I'll have to try the coat hanger hook.
I suppose there is no part of a "lobsta" that will do the trick. :-)0 -
Are you guys saying that the Toto G-Max is a lot quieter than the Toto power gravity flush ?0 -
my favourite

Quiter
Than any power flush. The power flush use's compressed air to push the water thru the bowl and is louder than any conventional gravity flush bowl.
